Implant Dentures
Functioning Just Like Normal Teeth
Implants are discussed and decided between you and your oral surgeon or general dentist who performs implant placement. If you’ve not discussed the possibilities of implants I can refer you to a provider who will consult with you.
Once a treatment plan is decided upon I will treat you with a denture that can be retained by implants.
Detailed written treatment plan will be provided to you at our consultation appointments once we know exactly how many implants and placement of implants.
Fees vary due to complexity. However I provide options that will be discussed concerning implant dentures.
I prefer to use an internal structure to strengthen the denture being placed over implants. Without the internal structure the denture is more prone over time to break and will need to be repaired.
I also offer an option to have a second denture provided as a backup for any possible emergency in the future so you’re never without. This will look aesthetically pleasing but is not as high of quality denture therefore it will not be as expensive.
All treatment modalities will be the same as other denture treatments with the recommended exception that you on a yearly basis get the implants cleaned by your dentist, oral surgeon or hygienist.
An important fact to consider is wear on implant dentures are typically greater than normal dentures. The reason is that there is much greater rigidity & retention of the denture so a greater power to chew is capable.
Your implant provider will discuss with you recommended placement, site preparation and any pertinent information with you at their consultation and exam appointment. I will discuss options regarding the implant denture design and options prior to starting.
Implants are a wonderful development to denture wearers and though there is a lengthy process to having them successfully placed and protheses designed. Implants allow the denture to be secure compared to regular non implant retained dentures. Sometimes we can remove the pallet on the upper denture which allows less bulk in the mouth and the ability to taste food better. This is uniquely possible by a team approach with your denturist and implant provider.
Each case will be individually discussed and unique treatment plans thoroughly discussed prior to starting with both your dentist and your denturist.
Implant Denture Maintenance
You will need to have the retention caps replaced periodically and we will provide this at a nominal fee and we will teach you how to replace them with the proper tool if you wish.
It is extremely important to have a yearly check up to evaluate the mouth, dentures, and the implants. Therefore it is recommended to have your dentist check your implants condition and clean them on a yearly basis. Yearly check-ups for your dentures and your mouth are part of your care plan automatically provided with myself.
The implant denture is born primarily on your ridges. These ridges do change and shrink and it is crucial for optimum success that the denture be refitted on a yearly basis to maintain the life of the implant and denture. There will be a fee if reline is necessary on the day of the reline.
